If you’re looking for wordpress hosting and confused what hosting company you should go for then this article is for you. I’m building wordpress websites from last 6 years. In all this time Ive used several hosting provides and in this article I’ll explain pros and cons of the top 5 hosting companies.

According my experience following 4 hosting providers are the best when it comes to wordpress hosting.

  1. Bluehost
  2. WpEngine
  3. Hostgator
  4. Godaddy

All these hosting providers are best in their services but they MAY OR MAY NOT fit your requirements. By requirements I mean the specs required for your website. When we create a website we may have the following priorities

  1. Performance
  2. Security
  3. Cost

Based on the above requirements I’ll list all of the above web hosting providers in increasing order of my satisfaction.

Bluehost

A BIG YES to bluehost. If you ask me about hosting provider I’ll say bluehost go for it. Why .? If you need a hosting provider with

  1. Moderate to High security
  2. Good performance
  3. Cost efficient
  4. Hassle free and easy to use Cpanel and hosting services
  5. Flawless customer support

Then go for bluehost, it’ll be your wordpress’s best hosting provider. If your website is a medium to big sized one and will get few hundred thousand visitors a month then you should buy bluehost’s shared hosting. There’re also some new plans for wordpress sites but I’ve always used shared one and never got a complaint.

For the above mentioned details you do not require a VPS, Dedicated or cloud hosting. You should start with the shared hosting pro package.

WPEngine

Yes its on the second number. WPEngine is a good hosting service and followings are the pros

  1. a. Best performance of the server optimized for WordPress.
  2. b. Very high security optimized for WordPress.
  3. c. Good Customer Support.

WPEngine as the name suggests, this hosting service is specially designed for WordPress. WPEngine mainly focuses on the performance and security of your website if these 2 are your major priorities then Go for it.

But If you’re a WordPress beginner and don’t want professional help. You may sometime get lost in the process of installing plugins and themes. Due to tight security WPEngine does not allow some normal WordPress features. For example it can be hard:-

  1. Installing plugins from zip files
  2. Editing plugin/theme files directly using wordpress dashboard.
  3. You’ll be forced to stay updated which is a good thing but if there’s a delay in a plugin or theme updates you may face compatibility issues.

Hostgator

Hostgator is also an old company in this race of hosting providers. It provides a good hosting service and all the packages matches that of bluehost. If you need a website with

  1. Medium security
  2. Good performance
  3. Cost efficient
  4. Control over the hosting panel

You can go for Hostgator. The price for hostgator is almost same as bluehost. Their support service is good too. They also have special hosting plans for WordPress websites. You’ll need to do all the server optimizations yourself using a plugin like wprocket.

One major point, I would like to share is that hostgator allows catch all email setup. That means you can set an email id which will receive any missed emails for the email accounts that does not exist. For example if you set your catch all email as catchall@yourdomain.com and you forgot to create an email support@yourdomain.com but someone sent an email on this email id then this message wont be missed and instead will be sent to catchall@yourdomain.com

Unfortunately bluehost does not allow this feature even if you try to contact their support. For one of my clients this was the only reason we  used hostgator.

Godaddy

Godaddy hosting is on the last, It is one of the biggest brand used for web hosting. They have a flawless purchasing system and packages. If you need a website with

  1. Medium to small website/traffic
  2. Medium to low performance
  3. Good security
  4. Best costs efficient
  5. Control over all hosting services
  6. Good contact support

You can consider going for Godaddy. It is best when it comes to domain purchasing and DNS but for hosting I’ll only recommend if you’ve a low budget. Because I’ve seen performance issues with websites. Secondly Their support is not that much good. Customer care representatives does not help that much. Most of the times we had to troubleshoot ourselves to fix the issues. I’ve also noticed email delivery delays with Godaddy hostings. It normally takes few minutes to send/receive emails when you’re on godaddy

Conclusion:-

If you need a high security website with some limitations Go for WPEngine, otherwise Go For Bluehost. If you want features like catch all and have good budget Go for Hostgator, and if you’re low on budget and need just a small low traffic website choose Godaddy.

I hope my article helped you, if you’ve any questions please feel free to ask below in our comment section.
